As the inaugural Governor of Marsabit County (2013-2017), Amb. Ukur Yatani laid a historic foundation for devolution. Under his leadership, the county achieved remarkable milestones: securing KSh 50 Billion for the UN Kenya-Ethiopia cross-border project, KSh 1.6 Billion from the AfDB for water and sewerage networks, and KSh 3.0 Billion from Germany for drought resilience and off-grid energy. His administration built the Marsabit Abattoir, drilled over 50 boreholes, upgraded 300Km of roads to gravel standards, graded 2,607Km of county roads, and constructed 200+ ECD classrooms. In recognition of his service, Marsabit was awarded the CRA award for Best Enhanced Revenue and voted the most inclusive county with an 86% ethnic diversity rate.
